150th Anniversary

2013 – 2014 Jubilee Message

It has been an ancient Judeo-Christian custom to designate certain years as dedicated to the Lord. It is to be a year dedicated to proclaiming the “Favor of the Lord.”

Today we begin a year celebrating the 150th Anniversary of St. Joseph Parish. Leviticus instructs that the Jubilee Year of the Lord’s favor is to be a time proclaiming “liberty in the land for all”, to “bring good news to the poor” and to “let the oppressed go free.” We are called to relieve the oppressive burdens of the weak and give every person an opportunity to start anew. Acknowledging God’s abundant blessings, we are to protect all human life, do all we are able to promote human dignity, to defend the poor and to seek the common good. May this calendar aid us in connecting our Sunday worship
to our work on Monday by carrying our faith and family values with us.

As God has been faithful to the covenant, so too are we to love our neighbor and to seek after justice in our everyday choices and commitments. Let this Jubilee Calendar helps us, each day of every month, to focus our attention on how much the Lord has blessed us and our parish for one hundred and fifty years. Let us use this sacred year of Jubilee to continue praying for and working for one another, the good of parish and the good of the Church in our world.

-Fr. Lawrence Martello, Pastor
